OverviewThe Department of Bengali is the oldest department of Women’s Christian College, Kolkata established in 1945.From the very beginning the examination results of the department are very satisfactory. Students of Bengali department have secured highest marks( jointly) in Honours in BA /BSc third year honours examination 2016 under The University of Calcutta. It offers Three Year Undergraduate Honours and General Degree Courses under Calcutta University. An Annual system of assessment structured by the University hinging on Mid-term examinations and Test examinations is followed. Besides, Periodical Tests are scheduled as indicators of student performance. Within the curriculum laid down by the University, 4 full time Faculty members of the department are here to impart multiple perspectives and contemporary perceptions of the subject.

Former and PresentFrom the old days affection and honour formed the basis of student-teacher relationship. Teachers are trying their level best to bridge the old values with the new thoughts of present day with a view to build up their students as a ‘Total Woman’. The members of the department, apart from academic accomplishments, also participate in charity and social services. In order to help the blind people, they have co-operated with Blind Person’s Association (Regd No. S/20088 ) and collected Rs 4526.50/- under the guidance of their Professors this year. Prizes awarded to the studentsApart from the General Proficiency Prizes, following Memorial prizes are given to the students of different years who fulfill the stipulated criteria.
